Performance increase between 9.2.1.2 and 9.5?
Added by Mark Hutchinson almost 8 years ago
I have a client using an app that has saxon9pe.jar 9.2.1.2J built into the app. It's licensed via the 'parent' app - not with a separately purchased Saxon license.
My client is experiencing slow performance in the XSLT stage of the conversion process.
Before I start in-depth analysis of their XSLT scripts I wondered if there would be any better performance in upgrading their built-in saxon9pe.jar?
Also, would upgrade be covered under existing license or would they need to purchase a separate PE license in order to obtain the upgrade?

With performance, the devil is always in the detail. Generally the performance difference between one release and the next is that a small number of things go much faster and everything else stays much the same. So it's worth seeing what you get with the latest release (which is 9.7, by the way) but we can't guarantee anything.
Most licenses cover free upgrade only for 12 months, in which case your client would need a new license to move forward.

Thanks Michael for the super-quick reply and the info. I think the original install was well over 12 months, so I'll advise my client to think about purchasing a separate license and upgrading.

One last question: is the PE-S (site, Pro Edition) suitable for multiple, concurrent uses? i.e server based where the parent app might be processing multiple files through XSLT concurrently.

Yes, sure.
