Input XML is corrupted when loaded into an XdmNode through a DocumentBuilder. The result is still well-formed xml, but not representative of the data that was used to construct the object.

This is probably not a Saxon bug, but an XML encoding issue. Removing the prolog/encoding specification makes the XdmNode build properly. I apologize for the inconvenience.
