While upgrading to Saxon-EE 9.7, I found that this code snippet now throws an UnsupportedOperationException:
XPath xpath = new XPathFactoryImpl().newXPath();
xpath.setNamespaceContext(namespaceContext);
xpath.compile("//*:x");
where namespaceContext is a javax.xml.namespace.NamespaceContext.
